The region of Dorchester County, collectively known as "North Dorchester," comprises the towns of East New Market, Hurlock, and Secretary. Hurlock has been the industrial and commercial hub of the Northern part of the County since 1892 and still owns the historic train station and two passenger cars. Hurlock is home to several industries, including food and poultry, transportation, and other manufacturing. Every October, there is a Fall Festival in Hurlock, during which the community spirit is on full display. Secretary, a tiny town, got its name when Lord Baltimore named the town after his secretary. A small town with a church at each of the four entrances, East New Market, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Northern part of Dorchester County plays a vital role in Eastern Shore history and provides a quiet respite for those who call this area home.
